Laser Hair Removal

Say goodbye to unwanted hair and the hassle and pain of temporary hair removal methods, such as shaving, waxing and electrolysis. Laser hair removal, or permanent hair reduction, is an excellent choice for men and women who have unwanted hair.

We provide the most comfortable treatments with our advanced long-pulse Nd:YAG laser. The premier scanning device used at Juvanew Medspa accurately covers 100% of the treatment area faster and safer than other technologies. We can target any hair follicle in any skin type.

The Fotona Nd:YAG laser has the depth of penetration necessary to reach hair follicles without causing collateral damage to the skin. Laser hair removal is accomplished by delivering laser energy into the skin where hair growth is present. Laser energy is attracted to hemoglobin that nourishes the hair follicle, and the melanin in hair within the follicle. White or gray hair does not pull in the laser energy and generally will not be affected by treatment. The hair follicles that are in an anagen, or growing, phase will absorb the energy, heat will be created, and the follicle will die. A follicle in a resting, or telogen, phase will not absorb the energy, and therefore will not be affected by the treatment. Treatments are timed to occur during these growth cycles. The number of treatments necessary depends on the client’s expectations; but typically laser hair removal requires a series of 6-8 treatments.

Common Treatment Areas:

  • Upper Lip
  • Chin
  • Sideburns
  • Neck
  • Under Arm
  • Arms
  • Chest
  • Back
  • Bikini
  • Legs
  • Feet

The cost of laser hair removal depends on the part of the body being treated and the amount and thickness of hair being removed. Our trained laser technicians will discuss the human hair growth cycle, laser technology for hair removal and expected outcomes at the time of your complimentary consultation.

How does laser hair removal work?

Our Fotona Nd:YAG laser works by destroying the blood flow at the base of your hair follicle. When this blood flow is gone, the follicle and its active parts will shrivel and die. There are 3 phases in a follicle growth cycle: anagen, catagen and telogen. A follicle in anagen, or active growth, phase contains engorged blood flow and will be affected on your treatment day. A resting, or telogen, follicle has less blood supply and will not be affected by treatment. This is true for all forms of permanent hair removal.

How is Juvanew’s laser different?

Our Nd:YAG laser has many safety features. The wavelength of the laser is 1064 nanometers. This makes the target in the hair follicle hemoglobin i.e. blood supply. The depth of penetration goes to the very deepest follicle and people of all skin colors can be safely treated. Other lasers, with a shorter wavelength, target melanin. We all have melanin in our skin. Treatments with shorter wavelength lasers result in heat absorbed by the skin, often not deep enough to effectively destroy a follicle, and have a higher incidence of skin reactions and damage. Our laser also has a computerized scanner. The entire hair growth area is scanned with a minimum of 13% overlap so that no follicle is missed and chances of side effects are minimized. Most other laser hair removal systems are done by free hand.

Treatments with Juvanew’s Fotona Nd:YAG laser require no anesthetics and no down time with very low risk of side effects.

What will my skin look like after treatment?

In most people there is no sign that a treatment has been done.

How many treatments will I need?

The average person needs to plan on a minimum of 6 treatments. How many treatments you will need will depend on your number of growth cycles and how hair-free you wish to be. Because a hair follicle can only be destroyed in an active growth cycle, your treatments will be timed to destroy the most hair follicles with each visit. Usually, treatments will be 4 to 8 weeks apart.

How long will it take for me to lose my hair?

If you stop watering a plant today, it will not die the next day. A follicle that loses its blood supply will also take time to shrivel and die. You will lose your hair 2 to 3 weeks after your treatment.

Can I tweeze or wax my hair between treatments?

No. Tweezing or waxing pulls the hair out of the follicle and may disrupt the growth cycle. You may trim or shave as much as you wish between treatments. Shaving does not change the type of hair that you grow.

What is the cost of laser hair removal?

Cost will depend on area covered. Package prices can be arranged if more than one body area is to be treated. An accurate assessment of cost will be determined at your free consultation.
